use of commas after but
#1

I am confused in the use of the comma before the word but in a sentence. Is it always used or not?

Please help me.
Thanks,
Rita

I always use comma before "but." I found some references that say if the group of words following the "but" can't stand as a complete sentence, the comma is used. Looking for other members to shed some light on this.
