My experience, for first 7 years, I have always done difficult files as other MTs were not willing to do them or were doing but kept grumbling. I just requested feedback from my seniors. My disadvantage, I got less line count than other MTs and less pay. I was frusturated and also kept grumbling in between at that time but now.
My advantage, QA staff who were sincere in their work and good in MT field became my friends and are still my friends though some have got 5 to 7 years more experience than me. I also got added experience of doing difficult dictators which helped my transcription.
After 7 years, I became QA in same company which I have started first as MT while almost all other MTs were still MT. So, I worked in same company for at least 7 years.
I am still working with two of my direct clients, one for 5 years and one for 7 years. They can rely on me and I can rely on them. I am a freelancer for last 7 years and with God grace successfully.
Whenever some one in MT field asks me for advise, I say do difficult dictators if you are less experienced than 10 years because in the end your quality is going to save you rather than quantity. I started doing UK work as a backup as I am a freelancer now and need some backup to keep myself moving if US work faltered.
The more hardships you suffer, the more better will you be as more experience you will be.
Cheers
