ACT broadband
#1
I hear there is a new internet provider in town, ACT broadband. Living in Chennai, I have been with Airtel, who have been very good and I have to all purposes never had any problems with them for the past four years. But then when I heard among other things that for about 1K or so ACT is offering speeds upto 15 mbps, at 40 GB fup with speed after 40 GB 512 kbps, which is pretty good. This is less than what I am paying to Airtel, about Rs. 1300 for 4 mbps, fup 15 GB monthly.

ACT has operations in Bangalore and Hyderabad and seem to be in an expansion mode. BUT the feedback is terrible from various forums. Once they have your cheque in hand, they seem to abandon you and their customer service is terrible where they simply do not get back. This seems to be the case in Bangalore.

They have just started in Chennai a month or so ago and doing extensive campaigning. I approached an office using ACT near my house and they say apart from some initial starting problems they are as good as they are offering and the speed is pretty good.

Any Chennai users out there? I would love to get some feedback as I want to get into the ACT. It would take a lot of persuasion for me to switch over as Airtel has been very, very good and I do not want to have to surrender Airtel and then find ACT has put my medical transcription acting permanently out of action.

Thanks in advance.

Read more about the ACT here. They are operational in some pockets of Bangalore only.

By the way Airtel would be increasing the rate of there landline based internet data services by as much as 40% from April 17, 2014. Rates of mobile data services from Airtel would too increase. I am quite sure other COAI members would follow suit which includes Idea and Vodafone all of whom have paid through their noses for retaining their 2G spectrum.

If you are happy with Airtel then stick with it until 4G comes from Reliance Jio.

I find wireless Aircel Pocket 3G SIM in my dongle ZTE K4201-I doing a good job towards speed and connectivity though Vodafone is faster but more expensive and may get more expensive as mentioned above and after coughing out dues to Income Tax guys.

Well now, why am I not surprised that it would only be you to reply?

There's too much negative feedback on ACT. I will wait until they have got their ACT together.
