I read every now and then about so-and-so companies wanting MTs to be DSP, NONDSP, trainees, nontrainees, medicine shopkeepers, etc. etc. to be well versed in this speciality, on top of that perform as HR, PR, or some other Rs even they have not heard of. Of course, their rates are miserly which even badly paid government drainage cleaners sneer at. Never mind the dollar is making them multi-millionaires, crorepatis and patnis. We are still bound to the British yoke and subservient instead of telling them where they can shove their miserly rates and attitudes. We Indians are good at whining and not willing to show our middle fing**rs at them.
Anyway, I was drifting away from DSP and nonDSP. I used to long, long ago work for a company called F*ckus or Bogus, which is what I actually thought they were. They have changed their skin, sorry, name to some other name. But ah, what is in a name? you will readily agree with me when you see some of the names of the email IDs on this site, individual or otherwise, which makes me wonder if they are serious in anythinig they do, but that is my personal opinion.
Coming back to the point, I first experienced what DSP and nonDSP was all about. You join, strive hard for this mysterious DSP, get DSP and then in one week lose it ( you f**cked up, ass*ole), and then you are under the microscope back as a nonDSP. In my case after some time, I was back to DSP and then demoted back to nonDSP. Reason again? Your sentences had too many periods, commas, semi-colons and your sentences are a mile long. After sometime, I realized that it was better to be nonDSP than DSP. No one cared a crap if your work was horrible and anyway the editors would check and correct everything. No more TLs, management, chief minister or prime minister to worry about coming after you.
So remember, if your work is "good" and you are DSP then your boss is in love with you but then if you are back to nonDSP for some crap mistake your boss looks at you like you are responsible for his/her herpes. This yoyo goes on and off leaving you wondering what hit you.
Of course, if your dictators are good this love story can go on for a while. Unfortunately, they do not tend to be so if you are doing multispecialties, your concentration is not good or the dictators are dictating as if from the toilet with an acute attack of diarrhea. End result? You gladly settle for a divorce from the company.
Seriously, though this DSP thingy leaves me cold. I have seen extremely experienced MTs make the smallest mistakes and have the TL and management make a big issue of it. Errare humanum est...we are humans and make mistakes now and then. If we did'nt we should be gods then, the symptom of perfection. We do not have to work for these money-making machines, I guess?
My two-bit opinion and for educating those who have not experienced the DSP trap. Of course, there are a lot of them out there who are doing well in this regard and I respect them. But presumably, even they have a tale to tell but will not come out with this.
Take care all.
