Speed in transcription work
#1
I initially believed that having good typing speed is always better for transcriptionist because the earnings in medical transcription work is based on line count.  The question which comes to my mind quite often is how much transcription work a person can do continuously and at what speed.

If the audio files are from the same person then transcription speed will increase and if the audio files are from different persons then transcription speed will decrease.

Imagine that you are asked to transcribe 10 audio files of same dictator and 10 audio files of different dictators and let us assume that each audio file is one minute duration and audio quality is good, then time taken to transcribe 10 audio files of same dictator will be less and time taken to transcribe 10 audio files of different dictators will be more.

What will be time taken to transcribe one audio file of 30 minutes duration.  What will be time taken to transcribe 30 different audio files assuming that each audio file is of one minute duration, and further assume that 30 different audio files are from 30 different dictators.

In medical transcription work whether you are transcriptionist, editor or proofreader, the transcription speed depends not only on typing speed but also depends on quality of audio files, speed of speech or rate of speech, clarity of speech, duration of audio files, specifications for the transcription work, time spent for searching medical words or any other word, and time spent for formatting  the document.

Thank you
