I am in this MT field for the past so many years but I have not seen companies paying on minute-based.  Only recently I realized after joining one company in Hyderabad.  I would like people to get aware and discuss widely on this topic because many people are suffering at the hands of management with this minute-count policy.  They ask you to type anywhere between 50 to 80 minutes.  People who are working on such basis do not realize that a minute will always not contain only 10 lines every time, it can be 10, it can be 11, 12, 15, 20 and so on.  The more lines in a minute the more you are being cheated by the company.  The HR or manager usually convinces you that you wont get more than 10 lines, but only after entering the company you realize that you are being cheated.

An example to open your eyes, lets assume that you are doing 50 minutes per day, which means for 25 days (4 Sundays and one leave excluded), 25 x 50 = 1250 minutes.
1250 minutes x 10 lines = 12500 lines. Good not bad.
1250 min       x 12 lines = 15000 lines. okay
1250 min       x 15 lines =  18750 lines. wow
1250 min       x 20 lines =  25000 lines.  Awesome.
Just imagine if you are doing accounts with fast dictators you are in soup, you can easily earn 25000 rs if you rate is 1 rs/line whereas if you are working for min count, for 50 min you will get 12000 per month max or may be 13000 pm and you will be convinced for this amount saying that 50 minutes means 12500 or less.

So the bottom line is please beware and be aware of companies giving minute-based work.  It is 100% not transparent by any standards.  Always ask for line-count based salary.
